Turkey Day 2009

Well...I put on the big show this year; and hate to admit that I really enjoyed cooking it all. Our turkey turned out FABULOUS! Very yummy. I used a different turkey recipe this time. I also tried out 2 new recipes, sweet potato balls, and gravy from scratch. I was very intimidated by the gravy. Both turned out great though and I have been requested to do the balls for Christmas. Think sweet potatoes wrapped around marsh mellows and then rolled in sugar with cinnamon and graham cracker crumbs AND sprinkled with nuts. I did wake up that night and remembered I had forgot to put the dang cranberry sauce out though SHOOT! I also ran out of steam and didn't get around to trying out these pumpkin flavored with cream cheese oreo cookie type things. I figured the Costco pumpkin pie was enough. I laid out wrapping paper as the table cloth and had everyone write on it what they were thankful for, Lei really liked this. Here are a few pictures...

Early Turkey Trot

So I got a fun call a few weeks ago and it's my sista wanting to do a run. Yay! I wasn't going to be in town for Chico's turkey trot but invited her to run in Davis' turkey trot. She and my dad showed up bright and early at my home so we could make our way to Davis' turkey trot. It was COLD. I layered my kids up and brought blankets to tuck them in the stroller. We did a 5K and my hands were numb by the end. We had our cheering section at the finish line and Lei wants me to do a race where she can go in the stroller. This 5K had the option for strollers. So I told her I would next time. Me and Lindsay finished under 30 minutes, still waiting for the official time to be printed. Best part? The shirt of course! And to have a buddy to do the race with!

Blast from the Past

When Lei was little she ALWAYS ate with her right foot up on her highchair. (Her eyes are closed due to the flash on our camera...another ALWAYS.) So today after church I look over and her right foot is on the table as she is eating. Total flashback. I grabbed the camera to capture it. Some things are ingrained in us I guess.

I wanted to get a pic with Luke in these cute p.j.s. They even have a velcro cape on the back. Anyway, tried to take it right quick before bed...and...he was not pleased.

Lei and Jordan carved a great pumpkin this year. It HAD to have 10 teeth as requested by Lei. Buddy's pumpkin remained uncarved due to time restraints; it was time to get ready to go trick-or-treat. I don't carve pumpkins...it smells and is slimey, so that is Jord's job which he loves.

Pumpkin Patch BUST

So we went to the pumpkin patch last week and it was one WINDY day! We were miserable. The patch had these wagons you pulled to put your pumpkins in, which the kids liked to ride in and Lei loved to pull. It was so cold before we found a pumpking, got to the playhouses, or the food shack we were all ready ready to go home. Lei-"Mom, I'm cold can we go home?" Me-"YES!"
Of course on our way home we hit Wal-Mart and picked out 2 beautiful pumpkins to take home and carve. Maybe next year it won't be so cold/windy and we will be able to more throughly enjoy the fun a patch can offer.

Halloween Bash #2

We all went to Sacramento's Fairytale Land Halloween Party! This year's theme was "The '70's". We went with my Dad and sister Lindsay and had a lot of fun. Imagine a huge park with tons of different slides, obstacles, and more, with a candy station right in front of each one. Throw in some '70's music and tons of people in costume and well...you get the picture.

My dad told Lei that the donkey's name was Uncle Tommy...same name as his brother!
